Biz Mashinani, has a deep commitment and responsibility to ensure the safety and well-being of those who participate in the program. We believe that "Real Skills and Real Income" can only be achieved in an environment where every young person feels secure, respected, and empowered.

A Position of Trust

We honour our position of trust and commit never to take advantage of the inherent power imbalance between the Foundation, our partners, and the young people we serve.

We do not tolerate exploitation or abuse in any form. We strive to ensure our programs and operations do not unintentionally cause harm. We act with integrity and live by these principles.

Collective Responsibility

Every individual at the Mastercard Foundation and within the Biz Mashinani program is responsible for safeguarding.

Non-Negotiable Practice

Safeguarding is a practice embedded in everything we do daily. It goes far beyond just having a policy in place.

Trust & Safety

We must create a safe space for people to express themselves and their agency, building a foundation of trust.

Within this vision, there is implicitly a deep commitment to building trust. We risk everything if we do not create an environment where participants can trust us. Without a foundation of trust, we cannot build a lasting relationship that allows us to work with others to achieve real impact. Safeguarding needs to be an integral part of how we design and deliver programs.
